Team 5 production.

Team 5 are getting really excited for our production in week 8. We haven't got long to practice but we are all learning fast.
Our production is based on a T.V program. We are putting on a play  about Green Is Gold. We will also have news on the Olympics. We've got a joke man and will have "Who's Got Talent". There will be ads that students will choose to act out. We will be rehearsing at school and at home.

On Monday 50 of year 5 & 6 went to White Pine Bush & Lake Tutira on a magpie bus.On the walk we learnt about trees, plants, birds and what animals can kill and injure our native birds. Some trees are native and some are introduced. Sometimes you know they are native because they don't lose there leaves and colour.

Room 14 Adventurers

Parkvale Primary School has been invited by Pan Pac to learn about conservation. We will be going on Monday the 6th of August to White Pine Bush. 50 seniors are aloud to go on the adventure and that has been spit up evenly through the senior classes. Everybody who is going is very excited to go. everyone wanted to go but only 8 from each class is aloud to go.

WALT make writing interesting.

We are learning to make our writing interesting.

We start with a simple sentence like The cat sat on the mat. We find the nouns. Before every noun we need an adjective to describe the noun. We also need an adverb to help describe the verb. Now we have more words to make our boring sentence much more interesting for the reader.
Our new sentence:
The evil black cat crept cautiously on to the dull grey mat.

Phoenix's Olympic Report

This term we have been learning about the Olympics. We have made reports about the first Olympics. When we finished is we had to video it on the camera & had to acted like we were on the news.

Here is Phoenix's Report.

Ashleigh's Video

In room 14 we each had to write a report on the first Olympics. Once we had finished writing our report we had to video it on a camera. When we were videoing it we had to act like we were on the news. Here is Ashleigh's news report for today.

Jamie's Olympic News Report

Our topic is this term about the Olympics. Last week we were focusing on the Ancient Olympics we have done news reports on the first ever Olympic Games in 776 BC. If you are interested in this then  WATCH THIS!

The All Mighty Olympics

Room 14 has now got fun homework on the ancient Olympics. We have to gather information and put it in our own words and present it on a Google docs power point. Every week we will get another lot of questions to answer. This is an online way of homework but we can choose which way we present it.

This term is the Olympic Games

In the holidays Mrs Kelly went on a ship from Australia. She stopped in small Islands. One Island she stopped in was Vanuatu. In Vanuatu Mrs Kelly had friends.
Vanuatu has one school that is just surviving so as a class we thought that Mrs Kelly could take some stationary and help their school. Mrs Kelly took 3000 grams of things to help their school.
Here are some pictures of the children opening their new things.

Welcome to Term 3, with the Olympics, Team 5 production and optimist yachting. Such a busy and exciting time for everyone. We will give our personal best and strive, like our olympians, to achieve our goals with determination and enjoyment. Our first week focus is to consider the Olympic goals, where did the Olympics start and why, and how we may learn from this wonderful sporting event and apply it to our own learning achievements.

Work in Term 3

Hello Children, Parents and Caregivers,
This term will be a very hard working term for Room 14. We will be doing lots of work on olimpics and will be going back a few steps in Maths to memorise our basic addition facts and our multiplication facts. We are memorising because some people are for getting their times tables to twelve if we can do LITTLE equasions we can do BIG equasions.

Our Homework

In Rooms 17 and 14 we have new homework  that is for the rest of the Term. Our homework is "Endangered New Zealand  Animals". We have to do some research and find out about the Endangered animals.

Learning Maths with Room 17

We have been working with Room 17 to learn new maths about fractions.

We worked together with a room 17 buddy to find equal fractions to the ones on the board.
1/3 would be the same as 3/9

Our Topic

In room 14 we have been using persuasive writing. I thought being persuasive was like being a lawyer! Our first time doing persuasive writing was ''Should Homework be banned?''! But that was just a try out. Half said it's TERRIBLE and the other half said it was PERFECT! This is what some people said: "Homework shouldn't be banned because you have got it for enjoyment and there are lots of fun activities like maths and new words to learn." Then we had one that said that "It is TERRIBLE because you can be brain washed by school education and have a life without learning!"

WALT Initiate Change

In room 14 this term we are learning to initiate change. We will do this by starting ourselves and making a change in something we do (by putting rubbish in the bin). As soon as we make a change in something we do other people will start doing it too and it will make our environment cleaner and safer.

Remember what the Lorax said:

Unless someone like you
Cares a whole awful lot
Nothing is going to get better
Its not

Paper Mache

In room 14, in the last couple of weeks, we did paper mache. Some people made bowling pins, a pig, robots and more. After they are all painted we will take another picture and show you all the finished pictures.

How much Rubbish we used in a Day.

In Room 14 we have taken a picture of how much rubbish we used in a day. Later on this term we will take another photo to see if we have less or more rubbish.
We are working on trying to show people there is no need for rubbish and if we use less rubbish it will use less trees and save the environment. We sorted the rubbish into three different piles the first pile was plastic the second pile was paper and the third pile was food scraps.

In room 14 we have been thinking about rubbish and how we can reuse it. We want to limit the amount of rubbish that goes into landfills. We thought that rubbish can't be reused but our thoughts have changed.
You can use food scraps as compost, old bottles as insides of papier mache sculptures and reuse paper to make new paper!

Making things out of Recycling

This term we are learning about making things out of Recycling. We have used bottles, food boxes, glad wrap rolls, toilet rolls and more.
This fabulous robot was made by Renee.

In Term 1 Room 14 went to a camp called Mountain Valley. We did lots of fun activities and challenges but the  one that gave the most fear was the FEAR FACTOR!

Dear Grandpa

Dear Great Great Great Granddad Henry
I'm sitting here in class wondering what you look like. I have lots of questions that I wish I could ask you right here in person. Writing this letter really get's me thinking about you. I have asked my entire family in Hastings about you. But the only information I've gotten so far is that you survived both of the world wars and died a few years later. I really wish you hadn't died but what's in the past stays in the past.
Love Phoenix

The Amazing Race by Kayla Stephens

Read Kayla's story about camp. It paints a really good picture in your mind of the Amazing Race.

Oh no I said, I was nervous because we were doing the amazing race I knew we wouldn’t win. I thought the activities would be hard. Puzzles, the first activity was putting pieces together to make a Maori puzzle. My team shouted finished when we had finished the puzzle, we were second finished  the puzzle so I figured we would probably come second overall. We were nearly finished we only had two activities to go. No I thought in my head its maths I need to get my maths brain ready for maths. Well that was pretty easy I told my team when we were done it was maths we did at my old school. Now we were at the last activity it was swimming in the pond but only two people from our group had to swim in the pond. I was relieved that only two people from our group had to swim because I am not good at swimming. The two people who were swimming had to go out to the man in the boat and get two tennis balls and swim back again. Just then I realised we were coming first I told my team we were coming first Hooray my team all shouted. We were finished. Junathan’s dad Mark was running down the hill to the pond the man in the boat said that Mark had the paperwork for our next activity. We started running to Mark finally we got to him. Oh-no Mark had forgotten the paper work he told us to go and find Mrs Hill. We we couldn’t find Mrs Hill so we asked Mrs Kelly, she said that Mark had the paperwork. Then Mrs Hill saw us she asked us what we were doing, we told her the whole story. She said just to go with her. We had still had one more activity to go it was using the letters we got at each activity and put them together to make two words. It took us about five minutes to figure out the words but when we figured them out they were easy words, and the words were....
Finally we had finished and we had WON!!! YAH!!
